Priorities, Passion and Purpose

By: Dave Vogelpohl

In April, 2013 I celebrated the 7th anniversary of starting Excellerate Solutions. Since the start, I've experienced many changes with some of the more memorable ones being: obtaining my business coaching certification, bringing Bill Spreitzer and Susan Arnold into the business as partners, and as a business, becoming certified as facilitators of the Passion Profiler survey. Each one of these changes has served my purpose of helping people achieve their potential and become the best version of themselves. By aligning my work with Bill and Susan, who have very similar purposes, we are making a difference for many people and organizations.

When I started Excellerate Solutions I was convinced that I wanted a way to make a difference in people's lives by leveraging my business experience with the flexibility to build a business where I controlled my destiny. This has been my priority for the past 7 years. After a long career in the corporate world as well as owning a small business with my brother, I knew the value of my experience. In my coaching practice, I work with clients regularly to help them achieve clarity around their priorities, both business and personal. Periodically it's important to reexamine our priorities, especially in light of changes in our situation and discovery of our passions and purpose in life. Alignment of my priorities with my passion and purpose has been the single most significant change in my life in the past 10 years.

Some of the benefits when this alignment occurs are:

  • Awareness: Because our passions are the outward manifestation of our purpose, when we become aware of our passions, we start to get connected with our life's purpose.
  • Clarity: Over time, through discernment and living our lives connected with our passions, we confirm our purpose. Once we identify with our purpose, we achieve an enormous amount of clarity - making it much easier to set and choose our priorities among the many choices available to us.
  • Confidence: With the clarity that comes from the conviction we are living on purpose, we pursue our priorities and make decisions with confidence.
  • Peace: Ultimately, when our priorities are in alignment with our passions and purpose we achieve peace and become a center of peace for those around us.

Recently, after much discernment, examination of priorities and planning, I've relocated to Orlando, FL where all three of my children and two grandchildren now live. My wife and I are blessed to have all of them living not only in the same city, but also in the same community in Orlando. While it was difficult to leave all of our many friends, clients, and relationships in North Carolina, the birth of our second grandchild on May 28th confirmed that we made the right decision.

While my priorities have shifted in favor of family with this move, it is a move totally in alignment with my Transformer, Builder and Teacher passions and my purpose of helping people achieve their potential and to become the best version of themselves. I plan on traveling back to the Triangle monthly to work with clients and my partners to continue to grow our coaching practice. Life is good when we are in alignment!
